'God in the details'

The past few days have been much better. Steve's nausea has subsided and his thoughts are looking up again. I was surrounded by girlfriends that lifted me up and encouraged me through prayers, hugs, phone calls and wonderful conversation (what are girlfriends without conversation).

Steve is pushing through the pain and is walking some with his crutches every day. Steve will con't his pool therapy, which is great, for the next 2 weeks and then he will have his mouth surgery on Oct. 13th . PT will then stop for 1-2 weeks but hopefully this will be the last surgery and the last set-back.

"Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy on me, for in you my soul takes refuge.
I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings until the disaster has passed." Ps. 57: 1

'God in the details'

This has been a tough week for Steve. He hasn't gotten over the nausea from the gallbladder surgery. He also had his first outpatient PT this past Tues. and it was a bit much. It took him the next 2 days to recuperate. Friday's PT was much better as he had pool therapy. Between therapy and doctors appt. we stay pretty busy. I would appreciate prays that Steve stays mentally up. It's hard to be 'up' when the pain is so long-term and you can't do what you use to do. We appreciate your continued prayers and encouragement.

'God in the details'

Today was a good day. Steve went through the procedure yesterday with no problem. He also received a good report so they didn't have to do any more surgery. He got a good night of sleep and felt better today. We were also able to celebrate our youngest grandson's first birthday...Terry and Shannon brought the boys out here so that we could be with them for Ryder's #1 year. What a blessing all around.

If Steve continues to feel better he will start out-patient PT on Tues. He has missed 2 weeks of therapy due to the gallbladder and now he is ready to get on with it. We still don't know the results of the liver biopsy but hope to know Monday or Tuesday.

Once again God has heard the prayers of many. Thank you!

'God in the details'

Well, I have to tell you, the last week and 1/2 have been a challenge... we are struggling to 'not grow weary'. Steve will be having another procedure done on Friday morning at Trinity Hospital in Birmingham. He wasn't feeling a whole lot better after the gallbladder surgery, so today he had more bloodwork and the doctor thinks the problem is with in bile duct...that perhaps it is still obstructed or constricted. Anyway, he is sending Steve to Dr. Sigmund, who has done this procedure many times. He'll have this done Friday morning and we'll come home Sat.

Due to Steve's mobility being compromised by the gallbladder surgery, he hurt his right knee when he was trying to get out of the bed. It's a little set back but I know as soon as he feels better he will make up for the lost time. Your continued prayers are needed and greatly appreciated. Please pray that the high enzyme level in the liver is due to the bile duct and pray that the procedure goes smoothly. Thank you so much for your prayers and concerns. I don't know what I'd do without you.

'God in the details'

Well...we had a little set back. Steve hadn't felt well all week but on Wed he really felt bad. Our family Doc sent him to the hospital on Thurs. and late afternoon today Steve had his gallbladder removed. It most likely had to do with the ICU stay...They also took a biopsy of his liver. His liver enzymes were really high. We are praying that it is from the gallbladder issue and the trauma and not from blood received in the hospital. Steve is doing well, the surgery went great and hopefully he will be home tomorrow.

Oh, when Steve got to the doctors office, the doctor looked at him and said, "You don't look good. I'm sending you to the hospital. Test done in the office don't show up anything but my 'gut feeling' says you need to be treated now!" I'm so glad she went on her 'gut feeling.' We know Who is in the details.

Well...Steve was discharged from the home health PT and he will go Wed. to outpatient therapy at Russell Hospital. He is looking forward to his PT being stepped up a notch. He is now able to and allowed to, walk down the porch and back WITHOUT his braces or walker! He will be doing 3 laps, 3 times a day. Plus, Steve can swap the walker for crutches. Through your prayers you have just witnessed one of God's miracles. How exciting is that? Steve goes back to the orthopaedic surgeon this Friday (9/11) and we can't wait to see Dr. Freeman's expression.

Steve went back to the Maxillofacial doctor today and we got his report. Steve does need to have his palette re-broken and set correctly. Here's what happened...He broke it in an 'L' shape.
It broke from the left side to the midline and then from the midline to the front. The break has caused the left and right sides of his mouth to be uneven. Now Dr. Parker will need to go in and break the palette completely from left to right and set everything back in place. Steve will have a total of 4 metal plates (2 on either side of the nose and 2 under each cheek bone) to fix the structure and and allow proper utilization of his jaws and teeth. The surgery will probably be sometime in the first part of Oct. (you'll know as soon as they give us the date). Understandably Steve is not looking forward to another surgery (not to mention another broken bone) .

"And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. " Romans 5: 3-4

Thank you for your prayers, calls, cards and visits. We are always encouraged and blessed when we hear from you.

'God in the details'

Steve is hanging in there with his exercises, PT, and walking. He gets stronger and more determined each day. Yesterday we went to Dr. Parker, a Maxillofacial Surgeon to see about Steve's jaw. The news we received was not really what we wanted to hear. There are 2 possible scenarios as to what is wrong and either one of them require re-breaking the jaw and setting it. We go back Thurs. for the verdict. Please pray for the best case scenario.

OK...last week I had a couple of bad days...I felt down, fearful and a bit weary. Then God in his mercy reminded me of the Israelites in the desert and the manna He provided. The Israelites were to gather only as much manna as they needed for that day and they were not to save any for the next day. The point is, the Israelites needed to trust and rely on God for all of their needs and so do we. "I will provide the manna for you." Fortunately, God is always faithful, even when I'm not.

Jesus said, "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in Me." John 14: 1
