'God in the details'

Steve is doing great! The last couple of days have been quite active. First thing in the mornings now, he gets into the wheelchair and we go on the porch and have coffee. Friday Steve walked up to the mailbox and back again (remember that's about 400 feet) and we went over to my brother's and Steve got to see the progress made on his house. Today we went to Auburn to Lowes and Home Depot (yea...) to search for an item for a client and to help overcome Steve's withdrawal symtoms. There are also many other things that are significant, which he is doing by himself, like standing at the sink long enough to brush his teeth...and to think, originally he was not to bear weight on his legs for another 4 weeks .

"Great are the works of the Lord; they are pondered by all who delight in them. Glorious and majestic are his deeds, and his righterousness endures forever." Ps. 111: 2-3

'God in the details'

Yesterday...another milestone. Steve walked up to our mailbox and back (with the walker and the PT). For those of you who have not been to our house, that would be about 400 feet total. Steve felt like he had been on a roadtrip-amazing what we use to take for granted.

We went to Montgomery today to see Dr. Vermillion. He was the doctor in charge of the trama unit that took care of Steve. Dr. 'V' was pleased to see Steve's progress and was also very helpful in getting Steve in to see someone about our concerns with the trama to his jaws. He has an appointment next Tue. Pray that it is something that just needs a little more time to heal.

God is answering so many prayers and we thank all of you for lifting Steve and me up in prayer.

"I will give thanks to the Lord because of his righteousness and will sing praise to the name of the Lord Most High." Ps. 7: 17

'God in the details'

Today was a good day but very tiring for Steve. He stood up for the first time without the aid of another person. He is now walking (with the aid of the walker and leg braces) not only in the room but also outside and he is able to get into the wheelchair without using the 'transfer' board. He is determined to do as much as he can by himself. So far Steve is ahead of all of the doctors predictions. Just goes to show you that you can't predict what God can do!

'God is in the details'

Steve had a great day today! The PT and OT came today and worked him hard. With their help and the walker, he walked to the front porch. He also sat in the wheelchair and moved it backward down the porch and then forward with just his legs. He did not wheel the chair with his hands. It was exhausting but satisfying. Then...he pulled himself up into the truck (with their help). Then he slept. He is so determined and all of your prayers, visits, calls and cards are so encouraging. Thank you!

'God in the details'

Steve has now started in-home rehab and is doing great. With all of your prayers and his determination Steve should continue to surprise the doctors. He stood up on Wed. and today he walked across the room and back (with the help of a walker and the PT). After he becomes what they consider non-home bound, he will be able to go to Acute Rehab. I don't know how long it will take to reach that goal but, when I do know you'll know too.

You have been great prayer warriors and such a wonderful support for us. Please pray for continuous healing for Steve.

'God in the details'

"For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb" Ps. 139:13

Today is a great day! We went to Montgomery to Steve's Orthopedist, expecting to hear that Steve would be non-weight bearing for another 7 wks., at least --that was the impression we got when we left the hospital. Well...to the doctor's surprise and ours, he said that Steve was, "way ahead of the game." He wants Steve to start using a walker and bear weight on his legs as best he can. He would like to see Steve in an acute rehab facility as soon as he can do 3 hrs. of rehab a day. Our patient advocate is looking for one now. The biggest hurdle ahead will be the knees. He'll have to work hard to not wear braces the rest of his life...that's OK...one more opportunity to see God in the details. Apparently God 'knitted' Steve together again and way quicker than the 'experts' expected. The amazing Power of Prayer...thank you.

"Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you." Ps. 9: 10

'God in the details'

Well, for some reason, pilot error I'm sure, I could not get on the web yesterday. I wanted to let you know that we found transportation for Steve to the doctors. Once again God is right there in the details! Thank you for your prayers.

More good news....we got Steve into a wheelchair yesterday! That gave Steve such a sense of freedom. We have a hoist that lifted him from the bed to the chair and then we extended the legs of the chair straight out and put a board across the chair legs so he could rest his legs on it. You know what they say, "where there is a will there is a woman, oops, I mean a way. "

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Phil. 4: 6-7

'God in the details'

Steve has felt a little better the last couple of days. He is getting stronger but at the same time it is also a challenge to stay upbeat ( hint: don't watch the news when bed-bound).

Our big dilemma now is how to get Steve to his doctor's appt. on Tues. in Montgomery. He can't bend his knees, he can't put weight on his legs, and we haven't been able to find a stretcher for him ...how ever we do have a couple of ideas we are still working on, pray that one or more of them pan out.

"From the LORD comes deliverance. May your blessing be on your people."

'God in the details'

Today was kinda rough...Steve was not feeling well. I don't know if it was a virus or just his body reacting to what it is going through. Pray with me that he feels better tomorrow and is once again ready to forge ahead.

A bright spot in our day (perfect timing-imagine that) was Fran and Beth coming over loaded with food from our bible study group and every dish was made with Steve's broken check bone and palette in mind. I think we will be able to eat for weeks. Thank you ladies. Ya'll are awesome! Once again God showed us His love, kindness and compassion.

"Summon your power, O God, show us your strenght, O God, as you have done before."

'God in the details'

August ??? Steve wants to know what happened to July. He is so glad to be home and so am I. Hopefully within 3-4 days we will have a routine going on...sorta. I think most of you know that Steve cannot put any weight on his legs - none, zip, zero, for at least 8 more weeks. One of our biggest dilemmas is getting Steve transported to the places that he needs to be (like home or the doctors). So, not only can he not bear weight on his legs but he can't bend his knees either, therefore he has to be moved lying down. Well...Thurs. when we were trying to figure out how to get Steve from Chapmans to home, our case worker called the Alex City fire dept. and long story short, they brought Steve out to the house in an abulance. What a blessing!!

"I trust in God's unfailing love for ever and ever. I will praise you forever for what you have done; In your name I will hope, for your name is good. I will praise you in the presence of your saints." Ps. 52: 8b-9
